$126m Emerging Renewables Program – ACRE 2011

The Australian Government is calling for applications for the new $126 million Emerging Renewables Program which will be administered by the Australian Centre for Renewable Energy (ACRE). The Program will provide support for the development of renewable energy and enabling technologies in Australia across the innovation chain.
A minimum of $40 million will assist the development of renewable energy and enabling technologies with potential to contribute to the generation of large-scale base load power, such as wave, geothermal and enabling technologies.
A further $26.6 million will be targeted at supporting the geothermal energy sector.
Federal Climate Change Grant Program $3m to raise awareness

The Australian Government has allocated $3M toward the Climate Change Grant Program (the Grant Program). The Grant Program aims to help the Australian public understand the need to act on climate change and reveal the opportunities and benefits of a clean energy future.
The Grant Program opened on 30 June 2011 and provides organisations with the opportunity to apply for grants of up to $250,000 to highlight activities that demonstrate the opportunities associated with Australia moving to a clean energy future.
Women in Export program

The Women in Global business program is an innovative joint initiative of the Australian, State and Territory governments to support Australian businesswomen to trade and invest internationally. The program was launched on 1 December 2010. The main objective of the program is to increase female participation in international trade and investment delivering increased economic benefit and job creation through greater diversity. The program will feature a range of a number of speakers including Australian consul-general and trade commissioner in Japan Wendy Holdenson, representatives from Austrade San Francisco, Austrade Japan and local case study speakers.
EMDG First payment ceiling set for 2010-11

From today, the initial payment ceiling (first round payment) of the EMDG scheme will be $50,000 for the 2010–11 grant year which just ended, compared with $27,500 in 2009-10.
The EMDG scheme is one of the ways in which the Australian Government provides assistance to small and medium-sized exporters. The grants reimburse exporters -up to a limit – for eligible expenses on the promotion and marketing of their international businesses.
National Stormwater harvesting and reuse projects – Round 3

This grant round will support stormwater harvesting and reuse projects that use urban stormwater to reduce demand on potable water supplies and deliver improved water quality to our urban waterway.
Urban stormwater is defined as “rainwater that runs off urban impervious surfaces such as roofs, pavements, car parks and roads”. Information on eligible projects can be found in the funding and implementation guidelines.
Round 3 funding of the National Stormwater harvesting and reuse grants are now open, offering 50 per cent of eligible capital costs, with a minimum project size of $2 million (eligible for funding of $1 million). Projects under this round must include stormwater harvesting and reuse; however projects that have multiple benefits will be highly regarded (such as including a component to assist in the management of localised flooding).
TCF SIP Grant Now Open-Textiles Clothing Footwear – Strategic Capability Program

The Textile, Clothing and Footwear Strategic Capability Program (TCF SCP) is a five year, $35 million, competitive grant program. It will support large projects that will build innovative capability at the enterprise and workplace level.
Round 2 opened on 6 June and will close on 5 August 2011. The program runs from July 2010 to June 2015. The minimum grant size is $250,000 and funding must be matched on a dollar for dollar basis.
Changes to the Australian R&D Tax Credit to start 1 July 2011

The $1.8 billion R&D Tax Credit will deliver more funding to innovative firms – including manufacturers, ICT and biotech – increasing productivity and Australia’s national income.
Crossbench Senators announced their support on 15 June 2011 which means the parliamentary road-block put in place by the Coalition will finally be removed.
The new and improved Credit will target more funds to genuine R&D deserving of public support – good news for industry and better value for taxpayers. It will deliver a 45 per cent refundable tax credit to companies with an aggregated turnover of less than $20 million and a 40 per cent non-refundable offset to all others
Digital Enterprise initiative $12.4m for SME’s

The Australian Government will provide funding of $12.4 million over three years from 2011–12 to establish a Digital Enterprise initiative that will help small-to-medium enterprises and not-for-profit organisations (including local cultural organisations) in local communities to first benefit from the National Broadband Network (NBN) to better understand how they can maximise the opportunities from greater digital engagement, enabled by the NBN. The initiative has been established to contribute to the government’s vision that Australia will become a leading global digital economy by 2020.
Registration deadline for R&D tax grant -Extended 2 May 2011

The deadline for submission of applications for registration ( section 39J ) for the R&D Tax Concession for the 2009-10 income year for June balancing companies is Monday 2nd May 2011 ( Queensland applicants get an extra day due to a public holiday where the deadline has been extended to Tuesday 3 May 2011).
Defence Grant: Capability and Technology Demonstrator (CTD) Program.

It provides Australian and New Zealand industry with an opportunity to demonstrate their technology and allows Defence to assess its potential.
