R&D Tax Credit Bill Reintroduced- October 2010

On 30 September 2010 the Assistant Treasurer, Bill Shorten, introduced the Tax Laws Amendment (Research and Development) Bill 2010 and the Income Tax Rates Amendment (Research and Development) Bill 2010 into the House of Representatives.
The Bills propose to replace the existing R&D tax concession with a 45 percent refundable R&D tax offset for eligible entities with a turnover of less than $20 million, and a non-refundable 40 percent R&D tax offset for all other entities.
The Bills, if enacted, are intended to apply from 1 July 2010.

09/10 EMDG initial payout maximum only $27,500

From 1 July 2010, the maximum amount initially payable for eligible expenses incurred in the grant year 2009-10 under the EMDG scheme will be $27,500.
This is the maximum amount that will be paid as an initial installment to eligible EMDG applicants upon assessment of their grant application.

Automotive Transformation Scheme (ATS) Grant now open

Registrations opened today for the Australian Government’s $3.4 billion Automotive Transformation Scheme (ATS), which will lift innovation in the motor vehicle industry by supporting investment in skills and R&D. The ATS replaces the Automotive Competitiveness and Investment Scheme (ACIS). It will run from 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2020 and include:
-capped assistance of $1.5 billion from 2011 to 2015;
-capped assistance of $1 billion from 2016 to 2020; and
-uncapped assistance estimated at $847 million

EMDG second payment for 2009 – 73.94 per cent

The second tranche payout factor for 2008-09 grant year applications is 73.94 per cent. This means that, 2008-09 grant year applicants qualifying for a second tranche (above $50,000) payment will receive 73.94 cents in the dollar of their provisional grant entitlement above $50,000.
