Victoria’s IT innovators will be invited to take part in a $100,000 online competition to create new applications to be formally launched later this month, as mentioned in the statement of government intentions released this week.
Minister for Information and Communications Technology, John Lenders, said the ‘App My State’ competition would give Victorians the motivation to turn their creative ideas into applications used by other Victorians every day.
“App My State is a competition to encourage software developers and members of the public to create web or mobile applications using Victorian Government data.
“We’re looking for the cream of Victoria’s innovative and hi-tech communities to come up with new and helpful ways to use this information – an added incentive for local talent to develop their ideas for fellow Victorians.
“Applications will be judged for their innovation, design and development, usefulness, accessibility and general excellence.”
Mr Lenders said Victorians would be invited to build applications they think may benefit Victoria and compete for $100,000 in prizes for developing applications for websites, social networking sites or smart phones such as the iPhone or Blackberry.
The competition will be launched in late February 2010. Click here to register.
