Applications for the Export Markets Development Grants Program (the new EMDG) will close for everyone (including consultant-supported applicants) at 5pm AEDT on 30 November 2021.

The new EMDG is a forward-looking, eligibility-based grants program. It provides certainty of how much funding you will receive in each financial year over the next 2 to 3 years. You only need to apply once in a grant round to receive a grant agreement that will cover a period of 2 to 3 years.

You can apply for grants in 3 tiers, for eligible promotional expenses incurred from 1 July 2021. Each tier is designed to provide a different level of support as you grow your export markets. Industry representative bodies can receive grants for promotional activities on behalf of their members and for training businesses that are new to export to become export ready.

When will I receive FY22 grant payment?

Austrade will endeavour to issue grant agreements to eligible applicants by February 2022. You will then receive milestone payments in accordance with your grant agreement. Austrade will make milestone payments on an annual basis as such:

• Tier 1 will receive their 2021-22 milestone payments before 30 June 2022.
• Tier 2 and Tier 3 grantees will receive their 2021-22 milestone payments in early 2022-23 financial year.

When will FY23 EMDG applications open?

Austrade will open the grant portal for FY23+ applications before the 30th June 2022.   However you will not need to reapply if you have applied in FY22 and received you grant agreement covering FY22, FY23 and FY24 (for Tiers 2 and 3).

When are grant payments made?

The timing of payments is determined by your grant agreement. Your grant agreement will state:

• When you should provide each milestone report. This will be a once-a-year requirement.
• Austrade may make the first payment for tier 1 and representative body grantees this financial year (FY2021-22).
• Tier 2 and Tier 3 grantees will receive their first payment early next financial year (FY2022-23).
