New Grants

The new guidelines for Round 2 of the Translation and Integration streams of the Modern Manufacturing Initiative have just been released to help shape your applications. Businesses can now apply for funding their activities under the two streams available:

  • Manufacturing Translation stream to help manufacturers translate their high-quality research and ideas into commercial outcomes.
  • Manufacturing Integration stream to support Australian manufacturers to access domestic and global supply chains and produce and distribute quality products and services into new markets.

Projects must align with the National Manufacturing Priority Sectors.

Deadline

Applications to both streams will close on 14 January 2022, 05:00 PM AEDT.

Overview and Grant Amount

Each of the Translation and Integration streams have their respective guidelines. Applicants for each stream and category are encouraged to carefully read through and do their due diligence for a better outcome.

The Manufacturing Translation Stream will support:

  • projects that integrate Australian businesses into domestic and international value chains
  • businesses to scale-up to become more competitive and resilient
  • businesses to adopt product standards and greater sharing and transfer of knowledge

The Manufacturing Integration Stream will support:

  • projects that aid the translation of high-quality research and ideas into commercial outcomes
  • businesses to scale-up to become more competitive and resilient
  • businesses to adopt new technologies and improve their manufacturing processes to boost productivity and competitiveness

Sectors supported under this grant funding are Space, Medical Products, Resource Technology and Critical Minerals Processing, Food and Beverage, Recycling and Clean Energy, and Defence.

Eligibility and Criteria

Eligible entities must:

  • have an Australian business number (ABN)
  • be non-tax-exempt
  • be registered for the goods and services tax (GST)

You must also be an entity incorporated in Australia, including start-ups and a trading corporation. Your trading activities must:

  • form a sufficiently significant proportion of the corporation’s overall activities as to merit it being described as a trading corporation; or
  • are a substantial and not merely peripheral activity of the corporation

Eligible projects must:

  • align with one of the National Manufacturing Priorities
  • have a minimum of $2 million in eligible project expenditure.

Your application must show:

  • evidence that your project is supported by your board (or Chief Executive Officer or equivalent if there is no board)
  • that you can meet the costs of the project not covered by the grant funding

Eligible expenditure must:

Grants are between $1 million and $20 million, and must not exceed 50% of your total eligible project expenditure. Approved activities determine your eligible project expenditure.

You can use this grant funding to:

  • invest in strategic projects that will increase commercialisation and translation activities, embrace technology, innovation and automation
  • grow production and manufacturing activities
  • bring commercial outcomes to new and existing markets, value chains and customers
  • other related activities may also be approved

Your project can include activities at different locations.

To apply, you must submit your application through the online portal. You’ll need to set up an account when you first log into the portal. The portal allows you to apply for and manage a grant or service in a secure online environment.
